Regulations
The control of noise at work act 2005 came into force in April 2006.
The aim of the noise regulations are to ensure that employee’s hearing is protected from excessive noise levels during their time at work that could lead to hearing loss or other symptoms such as Tinnitus.
Legislation states that the level art which hearing protection must be worn is 85dB(A) (measured over a day/week for average exposure)
The Risk – Why is it Important?
It is likely that we have all, at some point, experienced that ringing in the ear feeling after being exposed to loud noise. Whether prolonged or even a short period of exposure to loud noise can permanently damage your hearing, so is vital that any risk is addressed. The consequences (damage) can often go unnoticed at first, but progress over time can leave the individual with incurable damage.
The steady decline in hearing can often, mistakenly be associated with age, although other symptoms such as ringing, buzzing or whistling are more clear indicators of permanent damage.
However, it isn’t as simple as hearing loss or ringing that comes from noise damage. Loss of sleep and impact on mental health also factor in the consequences as well as simple daily interactions with people.
Hearing damage is not age specific. People, young and old can suffer from the consequences of noise exposure, so suitable measures should be taken in all instances.
How To Establish The Risk
The start point in addressing noise exposure levels/risk are to establish specific exposure to employees during a normal working day.
This can be achieved by using calibrated measuring equipment that record noise data over a period of time.
With this information, you can then understand the risk and take appropriate action
What Makes Us Different
Latest Tech
Using the most up to date measuring devices, we not only establish noise levels, but also split across octave band (63Hz – 8KHz) enabling for far improved hearing defender selection
Test Duration
We ensure our site visits are managed in such a way that we can establish an accurate representation of noise exposure. Taking this approach involves test durations from 6 hours upwards.
Compliance/Standards
All testing is conducted using fully calibrated equipment in line with ISO standards to give assurance of quality and report integrity.
Reports That Work For You
Once testing is complete, we can supply a variety of report options (including our summary report) that will allow you to take necessary measure to protect both your employees and yourself. These reports offer technical data, which coupled with ‘through test analysis’ approach allow you to identify specific risks (e.g. particular machinery)
Hearing Defenders
Having established noise exposure and risk, we can, if required use our database to recommend suitable hearing defenders that protect against both noise level and frequency.
